About
1. Background
In the last 5+ years in Germany as an expat IT Software developer:
Most recently, I got my EU Permanent residency(EU PR) application approved
I've worked as a freelancer for last 3+ years on a freelancer visa
was laid off more than once
I've worked as an employee for almost 2 years on a blue card visa
- Over the last 5+ years of living in Germany I got a unique perspective of two sides of a coin by being able to get multiple full time & freelance job offers & jobs
- Prior to working in Europe, I worked in Singapore for roughly 2+ years and I've also worked out of UK for a few months and in general I've also worked out of India for roughly 6 years
2. What exactly is the website about?
Given the above background, Wherecanonefind is currently aimed at sharing reflections, learnings, experiences, aha moments & other things that helped me
- Be successful(in general & as an expat) in Germany over the last 5+ years with both full time & freelance software development roles(even more so when there was a relatively tougher job market over the last 3+ years(due to Covid, war in Europe, inflation etc.,)) leading up to getting my EU PR
3. What inspired the website name 'Wherecanonefind'?
Some of the things that I've had to from time to time ask myself after initially relocating to Germany in 2019 are:
- Where can one find a reasonably priced 2 bedroom apartment in Berlin?
- Where can one find an English speaking tax advisor in Berlin?
- Where can one find an English speaking doctor in Berlin?
- Where can one find my next IT job that also offers visa sponsorship?
- ...
The list of similar questions continues, and hence the name.
